If there's one thing I have learned at this point in my life it's that whenever you do a kind deed for someone without expecting anything in return you all the time receive kindness in return. I didn't all the time think this way. I can remember in my late 20's and early 30's reasoning why is it that I make a conscience effort to be kind to population and I rarely receive it in return?

I was at the corner grocery store buying some early potatoes. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily appraising a basket of freshly picked green peas. I paid for my potatoes, but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes. Pondering the peas, I couldn't help overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller (the store owner) and the ragged boy next to me.
'Hello Barry, how are you today?' 'H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas. They sure look good.' 'They are good, Barry. How's your Ma?' 'Fine. Gittin' stronger alla' time.' 'Good. anything I can help you with?' 'No, Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas.' 'Would you like take some home?' asked Mr. Miller. 'No, Sir. Got nuthin' to pay foem with.'
'Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?' 'All I got's my prize marble here.' 'Is that right? Let me see it' said Miller. 'Here 'tis. She's a dandy.' 'I can see that. Hmmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home?' the store owner asked. 'Not zackley but almost.'
'Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at that red marble', Mr. Miller told the boy. 'Sure will. Thanks Mr. Miller.' Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me. With a smile said, 'There are two other boys like him in our community, all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to business agreement with them for peas, apples, tomatoes, or whatever.
When they come back with their red marbles, and they all the time do, he decides he doesn't like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or a orange one, when they come on their next trip to the store.' I left the store smiling to myself, impressed with this man.
A short time later I moved to Colorado , but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys, and their bartering for marbles. Any years went by, each more rapid than the previous one. Just recently I had opportunity to visit some old friends in that Idaho society and while I was there learned that Mr. Miller had died..
They were having his visitation that evening and knowing my friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them. Upon advent at the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer what words of ease we could. Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits and white shirts...all very expert looking. They approached Mrs. Miller, standing composed and smiling by her husband's casket.
Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her and moved on to the casket. Her misty light blue eyes followed them as, one by one, each young man stopped briefly and settled his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary awkwardly, wiping his eyes.
Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller. I told her who I was and reminded her of the story from those many years ago and what she had told me about her husband's bartering for marbles. With her eyes glistening, she took my hand and led me to the casket. 'Those three young men who just left were the boys I told you about. They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim 'traded' them. Now, at last, when Jim could not turn his mind about color or size...they came to pay their debt.'
'We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world,' she confided, 'but right now, Jim would think himself the richest man in Idaho '. With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting underneath were three exquisitely shined red marbles.
The Moral : We will not be remembered by our words, but by our kind deeds. Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath.

Rome wide fast due to its army. The Roman forces were the best trained and part of the largest in the world. Many politicians were leading soldiers because the army influenced their lives. The structure of the army changed a lot throughout Rome's history.
During the early republic era, in a forces emergency, all asset owing population were summoned to the Campus Martius (field of Mars, god of war). They would derive in groups called centuries, each group consisted of 100 men. In the beginning wars only lasted a few days, so it didn't matter if men left their farms for short periods of time. By colse to 340Bc wars were supplementary away from Rome. This meant that population were required to leave their farms for longer than a few days. To encourage population to join the army a wage was introduced.
The richer citizens could afford to own their own horses so they served in the cavalry. The rest fought in a block of soldiers carrying swords, spears and shields, while the poorest fought on the edges with stones and farm implements.
Soldiers were grouped into units known as legions, consisting of about 4,200 men each. Within each legion there were groups of separate types of soldiers. These groups were known as maniples and they each contained about 120 men.
Maniples fought in a special formation known as quincunxes, which were made up of three ranks of soldiers. The groups were spread out in 3 rows in a checker board pattern, over the battle field facing the enemy. The gaps in each line were covered by the forces in the line behind.
At the rear of the quincunx were 5 maniples (600 men) of very experienced fighters known as triarii. Next in front of the triarii fought the second rank of soldiers, 10 maniples called principles. These men were armed with fullness of weapons and large shields.
Out in the very front line of the quincunx, 10 maniples totalling 1200 young soldiers fought. They were known as hastati because they carried hastae spears. In battle, the hastati wore out the enemy first, and then the group of law moved into battle. The triarii only fought if a battle was going badly.
The youngest and poorest soldiers fought separately from the quincunx. They made up a group of 10 maniples and they were called velites.

Science-fiction movies highlight hosts of them in starring roles. However, they call them space aliens and/or "extraterrestrials." From my many years of research, the Torah, the Holy Koran and the Bible all accept and document that there are extraterrestrials. The Holy Koran calls evil types Jinn. The Bible calls the evil types evil spirits, night terrors, and demons. All three holy books call the good ones "God's angels, archangels and cherubim." All three riposte that God is the head and consummate authority over them all.
Strange Experiences:
I have counseled prisoners. Too many prisoners have documented cases of paranormal experiences. One single penal convention that I visit has an active guillotine. You cannot pay the most feared prisoners to go there at night, especially on moonless nights. Getting them to talk about what they have seen is like pulling teeth out of roosters' beaks. Since paranormal experiences could be mental, spiritual, corporal or all three, without scientific corroboration, I will only handle the ones I have easily witnessed.
Abrupt End To The First Strange Relationship.
I once dated a lady who came to an exotic island for a vacation. She seemed very reserved and distant. The only social partner she ever had, a former husband, succumbed to a long illness and died. I encouraged her to move on with her life. I took her navigation and taught her to snorkel. One night while dancing closely under the stars at an exotic night spot, we took a walk outside. Since the moon painted such a beautiful background picture, I pulled her closer to me. Suddenly, I felt a cold touch, like that of a hand deliberately intervening to cool down the social thermometer. I stopped immediately; I took her back to her hotel and ended the association immediately, without any explanation at all.
Abrupt End To an additional one Strange Relationship.
This situation was different. The association was very strong--physically. I met and fell deeply for an Irish Pentecostal pastor's daughter. I could not have known that when I met her. Both of us had strong spiritual roots. None of us knew it then. We both had strayed so far from our prophetic purposes that we were both corrupted shadows of our true selves. In spite of that, we fell passionately in lust. On the first anniversary of our living together, she pulled out an Ouija board. Suddenly a strange feeling engulfed me, and then whatever it was began tugging us both straight through a weird tunnel of evil. I could hear awful screams; whatever was pulling me had grand strength. She was screaming at the top of her lungs. I remember calling the name "Jeshua." Somehow that spooked the thing and it released its grip. Our association ended shortly after that. The emotional wounds took months to heal. The spiritual damage took years before a massive deliverance session pulled me through.
The Beast:
I met a combine on vacation. I invited them sailing. When I drove to pick them up to take them to the marina, the wife was visibly shaken and exceedingly pale. She asked me to look out the window. She showed me a crumpled piece of foil paper. The husband explained that they would take off lights in the cottage, shower, and then sit on the balcony to let the Caribbean Trade winds dry them off. As he got out of the shower the evening before, he saw his wife transfixed as she looked outside. When he rushed to the window, he saw a man with a pipe in hand. whatever he stuffed in the pipe, every time the man lit up and took a hit, a beast surfaced over the man's body. The wife confirmed the story. I kept the details in my mental files. Years after, a very piquant homeless man asked me to pray and ask God to deliver him from the "spirit of addiction." Just as he began to go straight through the cleansing prayers, his hands began to turn shapes; his voice changed into a deep blood-curling growl. Immediately, I flashed back to the incident that happened to the married combine years ago.
Too Many Missing Pieces.
Every convention that dispenses knowledge should be made to take oaths affirming truthfulness. They also need to say openly: some things are classified. After all, Erich von Däniken has collected a composition of well-documented, and also some questionable evidence from either past industrialized civilizations, or building sites worthy of more scientific research. Such sites are determined "controversial" because unearthed evidence could shatter the theory that mankind is climbing an evolutionary ladder. Many deeply religious habitancy shy away from such areas also.
After all, not all scientists are atheist. In fact many are devoutly God-centered. Science cannot shake a person's faith. In my case, it is scientific knowledge that prompted me to seek good understanding (of many formerly unknown supernatural events) that cemented my faith. That bedrock of knowledge makes my faith so much harder to shake because I can speak, teach, and share things from a been-there-done-that point of view. As long as institutions of religious persuasions keep their old texts obscured from scientific probers, and as long as the scientific community shy away from spending more funds researching records of the Vimanas in old India, and piquant findings-- such as Nasca Lines in Peru--- habitancy without scientific backgrounds will construe what they see in Hollywood-accepted terms.
Time Windows.
I have been documenting known paranormal activities for years. I have enough factual experiences to make a case that time windows exist. When I finally get scientific corroboration, then I will partake in piquant discussions on either or not U.F.O's exist or existed. To some people, every highly-unusual aerial manifestation is a U.F.O. Did we have space travel or space travelers in the past? What if, during exact planetary alignments, time windows open up to allow us visions of past events? The Vedic texts in India house detailed drawings of old flying vehicles. Isolated peoples have more detailed knowledge of astronomy that most of our contemporary astronomers. The Dogon are supposed to be one of the most isolated peoples on earth. Most have no formal education. Yet, any member of the tribe can take a stick and reproduce major star groups with such accuracy that it would embarrass our scientific communities. I know that the prophet Daniel was elevated above the time bridge and given glimpses of past and hereafter events simultaneously--Daniel 7:9-13. Since I have had experiences that are thoroughly distinct from what I believe, I must have those cases scientifically analyzed.
Bear in mind that from now to the end of time is future, and from the starting of time to now is past. Whenever hereafter and past intersect, we create a temporary dimension called "present"--Ecclesiastes 3:15 "That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past." I am the first-fruit male and seventh-born from both sides of my family. In the plenty of time, I must walk into my prophetic destiny, once I have retrieved my prophetic mould.
There needs to be a truce between religious and scientific educators. The chasm that exists between proponents of human evolution and proponents of creation is a lame excuse for not sharing needful retrieved data. It is no hidden that the Library of Alexandria was burned. Most old libraries documented data from past civilizations and have records of pre-earth beings. Were those beings the ones mentioned in sacred texts--who walked among us--or some other types? How else can we separate facts from fiction unless the religious communities--who have some of the greatest reservoirs of retrieved old texts-- allow them to be examined critically? As a result of decades of denials, secrecy, and misinformation, habitancy feel drawn to subtle-and not-too subtle occult-driven sources for information. By doing so, they open up spiritual doors to demonic interference, since the mere perceive with such organizations or their members will cause spiritual contamination--Isaiah 8:19.
It is so sad that few preachers teach about the behaviour and types of evil spirits; others naturally discourage and try to dissuade their flock with such dribble as "demons are not around today." If those enshrined with the tools to teach neglect their duties because of fear and/or ignorance, then habitancy will search for readily-available resources: movies and movie-influenced explanations. Although inter-denominational branches defend their faith turf jealously, I pray for the day when when scientists will sit down with exorcists to document data, so that paranormal issues come to be sensible talk-show topics. Then, possibly we would be more inclined to characterize what we see, or believe we have seen in broader, better, and more exact terms.

Saw 7. Nightmare on Elm road 9. Friday the 13th 12! Every conceivable difference of vampire. And God at all the stinking zombies. What gives? Is it the death rattle of a mortally sick society? Did the zombies already win?
Without arguing too vehemently the sociocultural value of six movies about evil leprechauns, I do think monsters are our friends. Not the kind you want hovering over the Brie, maybe, or checking on the cat when you leave town for a week, but they have a place in our lives. They teach us things and stop us from doing slow-witted stuff like entering dark basements in strange houses. They keep us on our toes, if nothing else.
(In college I wrote a B+ paper about Native American cultures that used monsters and "horror" tales to instill allowable group roles and behaviors. The Hopi, for example, sent nearby an Ogre Woman to give young boys snares to catch mice and young girls corn to grind. She returned a week later with other hideous, growling monsters carrying baskets to haul away any child who failed to produce. See. Friends.)
Of course, it's not all a bowl of boo berries. Monsters can leave scars, irrational fears of showers and beaches and videotapes and European youth hostels. The standing stare always got me. You know: That woman trapped inside an iron maiden in the final scene of The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), her eyes bloody and crazed. Michael Myers staring up at Jamie Lee Curtis from the sheets on the clothesline in the yard. Eva standing in the snowy road in Ghost Story. Those slight twin girls staring at Danny in the Shining. The ghost boy in the curtains behind Ted Danson in Three Men and Baby. Not my friends. Not at all.
Anyway... October is Monster Month, and I mostly break out the same five Dvds every year to celebrate. I won't say they're the very best Halloween howls or anything (someone obviously made ten Puppet devotee movies for a reason), but they're old haunts I like to visit. All five, too, are what I'd call "feel-good fright flicks." Not so much Hocus-Pocus-family-friendly feel-good or Love-At-First-Bite-zany feel-good, but just fun-to-watch feel-good: some legitimate chills, but you're not too jumbled up under the covers afterward.
Young Frankenstein or The Rocky Nightmare picture Show or slight Shop of Horrors might jump to mind, but they're not so frightening, really. Shaun of the Dead, The Return of the Living Dead and The Evil Dead trilogy are scary fun films, but how good can you feel after all that entrails munching and brain splattering. An American Werewolf in London is superior scary and fun... But not the happiest of endings.
With those caveats in place, here are my feel-good fright flick favs, by year.
Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
Cary Grant wasn't too thrilled with his carrying out in this movie. Too over the top, he thought. Brilliant, I think. Mortimer Brewster (Grant) marries the girl next door, literally. As she packs at home for their honeymoon, and the cabbie waits out front, Mortimer gets caught up at his house with the relatives: two cordial homicidal aunts, a not-so-kindly homicidal brother, and a brother who thinks he's Theodore Roosevelt. As Mortimer explains to his new wife, "Insanity runs in my family, approximately gallops!" Peter Lorre is right at home in the nuthouse as the nervous, drunk plastic surgeon, Dr. Einstein. Oh, and the whole happy conference happens on Halloween.
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
If the movie monster gods hadn't denied us Boris Karloff playing Frankenstein's Monster (as they did his playing Mortimer's evil brother in Arsenic and Old Lace) this movie would be near perfect: Universal Pictures' superior comedy team meets its three most superior Universal monsters. Still, Bud and Lou running afoul of Bela Lugosi's Dracula and Lon Chaney, Jr.'s Wolf Man is... Classic. The fact it all happens in spooky South Florida... Oh Chick! (Lou Costello supposedly hated this film and determined it one of his worst. Et tu, Lou?)
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)
Another Universal Pictures classic. Bless them. Sticking a haunted "murder house" in the middle of innocuous small town U.S.A. And putting Don Knotts alone overnight in said house, it's gold, Jerry. Gold. And I'll admit that Mr. Chicken is a far braver coward than me. I'm gone as soon as that gramophone starts playing by itself in the basement. Mr. Chicken keeps going and makes it all the way up to the organ loft, the keys of the organ stained with young Mrs. Simmons blood. And they used Bon Ami. That's one plucky chicken.
The Night Stalker (1972)
Okay. It's a made for Tv movie. From the 70s. But Carl Kolchak is to monster hunting what Susan Boyle is to singing. Toddling out in his trademark straw hat and seersucker suit, we might be inclined to underestimate him. We shouldn't. And there's something irresistible about The Christmas Story dad taking on those nasty denizens of the dark. Darren McGavin is the perfect recalcitrant, rock-ribbed reporter out to solve the mystery and get the story no matter what. Over two movies and 20 Tv episodes (the series was cancelled after one season), facing all from werewolves to a headless motorcycle rider, Kolchak establishes himself as one of the beastie battlers' best.
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Tim Burton just about owns Halloween, in my mind. Nearly any of his movies will work. He captures the night's climate and essence like no one else, and putting Washington Irving's Headless Horseman in his hands is a no-brainer. Instead of the sycophantic, superstitious schoolmaster from Irving's short story, Johnny Depp's Ichabod Crane is a rational, progressive constable in 1799 New York City sent north to solve three murders. It rattles him to the core when the clearly supernatural fiend raises its ugly... You know. This is the bloodiest of my feel-good flicks. Lots of headlessness and whatnot... And a great homage to those terrible staring eyes in The Pit and the Pendulum. Heady stuff.
Besides the feel-good factor of these films, you may have noticed, too, they all contain unlikely or reluctant "heroes" facing their demons: the triumph of courage and an indefatigable spirit over the selfish, self-preserving reflex to run away. It truly feels good to see such folks prevail. an additional one potent chapter to the tribe, perhaps, from our friends the monsters.
